4G mobile phone service continues to spread in South and Central Florida

4G service in South and Central Florida is spreading quickly, which means residents here will be able to take advantage of the fastest data service for smart phones and the devices that make it all happen.

What is 4G? It is the next generation of mobile network service, offering downloading speeds for video up to 1o times faster than current 3G networks. For mobile phone users, it can be nearly as fast as home Internet service. Expect to download movies in minutes and full-sized photos in seconds.

AT&T will announce on Friday network upgrades in Palm Beach County that will offer greater wireless bandwidth (for downloading and uploading data, including photos and videos) and that will enable 4G speeds for area residents. Similar network upgrades were made recently in the Fort Lauderdale-Miami areas, say the company. The network enhancements should also meant that more people can access the network at the same time without diminished quality of service. That can be very handy when you are at a spot major sporting events, concerts and parades with a crowd of people using their smart phones at the same time.
